MY MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS
My maternal grandmother, Mary Delemore (b. September 24, 1896 - d. December 1979), was
born in Brooklyn, New York. Her parents were from Ireland. Her father was Patrick Delemore
(b. 1871 - d. February 18, 1901) and her mother was Mary York (b. 1870 - d. July 20, 1915).
Shortly after her mother's death she married my grandfather, Carl Napolitan. He had emigrated
from Marigliano, Italy (about 30 miles east northeast of Naples) at four years of age.
His father was Nicola Napolitano (b. 1875 - d. June 25, 1946) and his mother was Maria Concetta
Caliti (b. 1878 - d. March 10, 1973).
They had seven children. Three of the children died in child birth. One was a single birth and the
others were twins. The four that survived were Nicholas, Marie, Dorothy and Carl. Nicholas was
known as "Buster", Marie was called "Babe", Dorothy was called "Infant" and Carl was "Junior."
Marie is my mother.
We are currently trying to get more information on this side of the family.
MORE RECENT HISTORY
My wife and I have three sons, James Patrick, Robert Matthew, Timothy Charles and a
daughter,
Joan Marie. We are also blessed with five grandchildren, two granddaughters, Samantha Joan
McIvor and Brenda Nichole Flood; and three grandsons, Scott Joseph McIvor, Jr., James Patrick Flood, III and Nicholas John Flood.
My degree is in Civil Engineering and I've worked for the last 40+ years with the City of New
York. I retired on September 27, 2002. My wife stayed at home and took care of the children. Now that they are grown and all
but on their own, she does a lot of work for our church and for a non-profit foundation.
Our oldest son and I are active in the Knights of Columbus. He is a Past Grand Knight of
Staten Island Council #1662 as am I. I'm also a Former District
Deputy for the 39th New York District.
My wife is the oldest of 11 children (7 girls and 4 boys) while I'm the oldest of 5 children (4
boys
and 1 girl). Three of our four parents are, thank God, still alive. Her father is 87, her
mother is 83. My father died at 84 on April 30, 2002 and my mother is 82. The three surviving parents are in reasonable health considering
their ages. My in-laws celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary in September 2003. My
parents celebrated their 61st in June 2001.
